Driving Instructions for the Beginner

March 31st, 2010

When a beginner undergoes driving instruction, the first phase normally followed by the driving instructor is the orientation of the student on the names and functions of the different parts of the vehicle that has to do with the driving of the vehicle.

The student driver at this time learns about the ignition key and its purpose, the steering wheel and its function, the gas pedal or accelerator and its function, the car’s brakes and functions, the clutch and transmission lever and its function.

The instructor will teach the very basic points to the student seated in the driver’s seat. This procedure will give him a feel of the real thing even when the vehicle is stationary yet.

With the engine still off, the student is asked to simulate the starting procedure, the clutching process to go through the different gears from first, thru the second gear, through third, and so on to fourth and fifth, and the reverse gear.

Once the tutor develops some confidence that the student has got the feel of these steps while the engine was at rest, the next step is to bring out the student driver to an open field, and is made to go through the second phase of the course.

He starts the engine, and then slowly moves the car forward under the watchful eye of the instructor seated on the right of the student driver. The student will need some time to learn how to get the right mix of gas pedal action with the clutch pedal. He will go through with some jumpy starts at first, but with more practice, the student should be able to get the right coordination of his right and left legs in a while. While doing this coordination of his right and left foot, he is simultaneously learning the careful handling the steering wheel to control the vehicle’s direction in its initial movements.

If the open field is wide enough, the student goes through the different speeds corresponding to the different gears, including moving in the reverse gear. Several rounds around the field should give the student the chance to develop some confidence that he is learning to drive. The instructor at this stage will also give practical tests to the student on what he should do under varying driving conditions, simulating such conditions that the student driver could run into in actual road driving.

The next step after the student passes this second phase of the instruction is to bring out the student on the road, preferably in the less-traveled streets, to start giving him the feel of real driving. Before getting started on the actual road driving, he gets instructions on the various road regulations and procedures, to make him aware of the rules to follow in street driving.

The instructor gradually exposes the student driver to different road situations until he is ready to move to the busier streets.

After about a week of this driving on the road, the student normally should be relatively ready to strike out on his own. Before the tutor releases the student driver all by himself on the road, several days of driving around in the company of his tutor will enable the student to acquire more experience and confidence in his driving. That should not be very difficult for the average person.

For vehicles with automatic clutching mechanisms, learning to drive them could be much easier for the average driver-to-be.

Used MINI – What Has Changed Over the Years?

March 31st, 2010

We all adore the mini, with its cute and classy stylings, fun and funky personality and cool, adventurous reputation. But many people considering a used mini wonder what exactly has changed over the years: what has been improved upon or replaced, in short, what makes the new mini different to the old?

Before we start ringing the changes, however, we really should draw attention to the elements that haven’t changed, most notably the cars “quirk” factor. This is an undoubtedly kooky car, with more personality than anything else on the roads! The new gen Minis have retained elements of design not limited to the inimitable shell, but also featuring original-styled toggle control switches for the stereo and the heating. The new gen dash makes a feature in particular of the speedometer, oversized and positioned centre dash so you can see when you hit those 140 mph highs. The retro feel that the speedo exudes is entirely in-keeping with the car’s overall modish appeal – perfect for mod-men and vintage vixens, and far superior to a scooter!

On to the changes, to start with there’s the length – about 60mm longer to fit modern safety regulations and 18mm taller, much to the modern man’s relief! A tighter squeeze to parallel park, yes, but no matter – more room on top for your surfboard! This size increase has expanded the boot size by 10 litres – perfect for packing picnics – and made rear seat space far less tight than in previous models – particularly when coupled with the cleverly sculpted “cut-out” chair backs that create more leg-room.

There are elements of the design which have been updated: the indicators are now positioned within the headlamps, which themselves have been relocated to the wings. A restyled grille and larger rear-lights complete the cosmetic make-over, alongside new colour options including metallic paints.

The introduction of power-steering, meanwhile, makes a huge difference to the overall drive, and the addition of a power steering boost button to the Sports kit option makes the car even more powerful and responsive. In the Cooper and Copper S models some parts have been replaced with aluminum for a lighter weight. Combine this with improved suspension, a new rear axle, harder springs, dampers and anti-roll bars, and you’ve a rare beast indeed; at least, within the supermini class.

These new gen models offer a choice of engines to suit your own needs. The Mini One 1.4 is a bit growly, but satisfactory enough. If you can possibly stretch to it, a 118 bhp 1.6 litre in a Cooper or Cooper S is well worth the extra money, eliminating all residual growl and rattle, jumping 0-62 in 7.1 seconds and hitting top speeds of 140 mph. Both petrol and diesel options are available, and the new cars obviously offer better fuel economy (still not the best in class) than previous models. Repairs are not cheap, and the add on TLC package, covering all routine service costs for 5 years or 50,000 miles at £185 is worth the investment.

This is just one of the paid extras you can add to your Mini. The £1875 Chili pack offers a cut price deal on items such as part-leather upholstery, a three-spoke wheel and air conditioning, among others. Metallic paint and xenon lights will both leave you further out of pocket. The good news is that a Mini is an investment piece, holding its residual value better than any other in the supermini class.

Most importantly, a Mini is a safe car. Changes to its design have created a vehicle with a five star Euro NCAP crash-test rating, boasting front, side and cabin-length airbags and stability control.

Change isn’t always good: but in the case of used Mini models, it seems it might be!

Run Car With Petrol and Water

March 30th, 2010

Like a lot of people you are probably wondering if it is actually possible to run a car on water. Well, I am here to tell you first hand, that it is not only possible to run a car on water; it is also surprisingly cheap and easy to do. You can run your car on water, supplemental to petrol, to increase your car’s fuel efficiency and reduce your petrol costs significantly. Think about it; instead of going to a gas station to fill up on high price petrol that pollutes our environment, you just stay at home and fill your car tank up with water instead. By running your car on water, you can dramatically reduce your gas costs. Running your car on water means higher Miles Per Gallon (MPG).

So this could be an interesting project for you mechanical types, with a great reward of never having to purchase petrol for the rest of your life and helping humanity at the same time. This is simply an efficient way to convert ordinary tap water into gaseous hydrogen and oxygen and then burn these vapors in the engine, instead of petrol. In simple words, this technology involves putting together homemade devices that use a little electricity out of your car’s battery to separate water into a gas called HHO (2 Hydrogen + 1 Oxygen). HHO, also known as Brown’s Gas or Hydroxy which burns beautifully and by so doing provides TONS of energy. First things first… this isn’t about running your car on 100% water. Of course there is information available about running your car on 100% water but they are not only complicated, also seriously expensive and completely unpredictable.

By using water as fuel, you can laugh at rising petrol costs, dramatically increase your mileage (depending on the car you drive), reduce emissions and prevent global warming. To run your car on water may seem a bit weird for some but you should consider that a hydrogen-powered car is less complicated than you think. But, you are enveloped in such a modern world so believe it or not; you can run your car on water. Around the world many people are saving tons of money by doing this. So if your question is can I run my car on water the answer is yes, you can run your car on water using this technology.

Hybrid Cars Will Not Save the Environment

March 30th, 2010

There, the cat is out of the bag. But, how so you ask? All the commercials and websites are pimping these babies like they are the second coming. If you ever lift the hood of a hybrid, read the label on the battery. You can’t throw them out because they are toxic and contain heavy metals that would pollute our ground water! They can weigh as much as 600 pounds. Think what would happen if that hybrid car got into the accident besides your city’s water supply. It would destroy it. And in twenty years time, what is going to happen to all those batteries stocked up in the junk yard? Do you think they’ll never leak?

A lot of proponents will tell you that the batteries will be recycled for new cars, but what happens when we turn to new technology. Right now all Hybrids are using Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries, already we are looking to move on to Lithium-Ion batteries. Hybrids are a fad. They won’t last long, but the damage they could cause the planet could last a life time.

So if Hybrids won’t save the world, what do we do?

Because let’s face it, our entire economy is now reliant on cheap, fast transportation. We can’t give up driving, our lives and the world would suffer.

Welcome Hydrogen Power: Norway and Sweden have been toying with the idea of hydrogen power for years. Now they have developed hydrogen buses, cars, trucks and more. They even are working on developing the first fully hydrogen powered highway.

California has a hydrogen highway too, where instead of gas stations there are hydrogen re-fueling stations. Talk about something that seems very science fiction! But it’s not. The US army is using hydrogen powered hummers, and hydrogen buses are rolling down our highways.

If it’s good enough for the US army and public transportation, you’ve got to believe it’ll work for your car. In fact any car can be converted to run with hydrogen power whether it be gas run or diesel. But how?

Water contains fuel. If you can split the Hydrogen from the Oxygen in water, you have everything you need to create combustion and run your car’s engine. Not to get too techy, but there are different ways to do this. It’s not a direct split, but an alteration of water into a gas. This burns and is what you may have heard called HHO.

Burning HHO or Brown Gas is even better for the environment than just burning Hydrogen! Adding hydrogen to the air-fuel mixture in a car’s engine will allow the engine to burn the gas more completely because the hydrogen is simply more flammable. This makes your engine vastly increase its efficiency and have a more complete burn. This is good for you, and for the environment!

Think about it, the instructions and the materials will cost you under two hundred dollars that saves you at least $10 each time you fille up, which if you’re like me is four times a month! Four! It won’t take long for a return on your investment. We’ve purchased a few kits, so you don’t have to try some to only find out it wasn’t what you were looking for. We spent extensive time reviewing them, and have narrowed it down to the top three that really work. Not only that, but these hydrogen conversion kits are easy to use and come with alot of colorful, and helpful pictures.

The 5 Top Fuel Efficient Gas Powered Cars

March 30th, 2010

You may find it is time to either trade in your gas guzzler or to purchase an additional vehicle that is fuel efficient. There are some really great ones out there offered by the best manufactures. Many of the best are compact cars but some of them are medium in size.

You may have the image of being squeezed into a seat that is too small and not enough room for your groceries. Yet most of these fuel efficient cars are roomier than you might think. It can be helpful to take your entire family to look for one. This way you can see just how good of a fit it would end up being.

This is a smart move as you may have a child or two that use car seats. They do take up more room but you want to find out for sure how everyone is going to fit. Saving money on gas isn’t going to be something you care about too much if everyone in the car is complaining about not enough space each time they get into it.

The Ford Focus gets the top billing when it comes to fuel efficient cars. This is also a very affordable car to buy either new or used. They come with two or four doors so you can decide which model is best for you. It should get you between 28-30 miles per gallon on the highway and 24 in town.

The Honda Fit is similar with a hatch back as well as two or four doors. It does get better gas mileage though at a rate of 34 miles per gallon on the highway and 28 in town. It isn’t as comfortable overall as the Ford Focus though so that is why it doesn’t get top billing.

Honda also comes in at #3 with the Civic. This is a car they have had around for quite some time. It has always been very fuel efficient but more people are interested in it now than before due to the high fuel prices. It offers up to 36 miles per gallon on the highway and 25 in town.

The most expensive fuel efficient vehicle out there is the Mercedes Benz. These are very stylish vehicles and often driven by those who want to let their prestige shine. This is an extremely well built vehicle that is also extremely fast. Most people only dream of owning such a fabulous car though as they are out of the price range for most of us. They do offer 32 miles per gallon on the highway about 25 in town.

Completing the top five is the mini Cooper. This is likely the most fun you will have with a fuel efficient car. They offer plenty of room inside and a great style with the exterior. They are more common with women than with men though as they tend to be labeled as cute.

If you weren’t impressed with the power it offered in the past, you should look at the newer models. The manufacturer has been listening to consumers and the Mini Cooper now features more power than ever before. In addition to being fuel efficient it is also very environmentally friendly.

When you see that it gets 37 miles to the gallon on the highway and 28 in town you will definitely be impressed! They have a decent price too so you won’t find it to be too unreasonable to fit into your budget. The money you save on gas for it can go towards paying your payment on it each month!
