With gas prices going up almost every week, I realized the only way to save money was to drive less, or improve my gas mileage. After cutting back on my “recreational” driving, I was still shelling out almost $60 per week on gasoline. Too much!
I began poking around online, doing my own research into gas mileage improvements, gas mileage devices, additives, “water4gas” HHO conversion kits, and any other gas mileage secret I could find.
After reading what seemed like hundreds of pages of material – and much of it thinly-disguised advertisements – I made a list of the most credible, no-cost methods and techniques.
I settled on 4 specific things that seemed the best candidates to improve my gas mileage, and began my “experiment”.
First, I had to determine what my current mpg was. Using a simple gas mileage calculator formula, I wrote down my “starting” mpg. Then I went through my list:
I checked the pressure in all four tires. Three were low. I filled each tire to just a little above the recommended psi.
I had my tires balanced and aligned.
I replaced my air filter and oil.
I re-scheduled all of my non-commuting driving to be done off-peak and off rush-hour.
After 3 1/2 weeks I did my calculations, and to my amazement, I had in fact managed to improve my gas mileage by 32%. That’s actually equivalent to getting gas for less money – one-third less!
I am now on a mission to see just how much I can improve my gas mileage without spending anything more. You can do this too!
